Treaty Territory - Land / Water Acknowledgement

We acknowledge in Manitoba we are on Treaty 1 Territory and that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of Anishinaabee, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Red River Métis Nation. We acknowledge Northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit. We recognize that our water originates in Shoal Lake 40 First Nation territory.

In Kelowna, we  acknowledge the Thompson Okanagan region, is situated on the traditional, unceded territory of three Interior Salish nations: the Syilx, Secwépemc, and Nlaka'pamux peoples. As well, the Thompson Okanagan includes land and water routes that were created and used, both historically and presently, by Indigenous peoples as seasonal travel and trade routes.

Honouring the treaty relationships, based on the affirmation of rights, respect, co-operation and partnership, is key to advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. We stand in solidarity with the Indigenous community and are committed to an ongoing process of collaborative reconciliation.
