Taking The Next Step

Becoming an entrepreneur or deciding to grow into the next phase of your business is rarely a straight path. For most, the first step feels like standing on the edge of a cliff, heart racing, questioning every move. Uncertainty, overwhelm, and self-doubt often creep in… and for many, that’s enough to hit pause or retreat altogether.

And here’s the truth: even established entrepreneurs aren’t immune. Taking the next leap - whether that’s scaling, pivoting, or stepping into a new direction, can feel just as daunting as the very first.
The Weight of Mindset
Did you know that 80% of entrepreneurs fail? While sometimes it’s due to lack of preparation or a business model that isn’t sustainable, one of the biggest reasons is often overlooked: mindset.
We can learn skills. We can hire help. We can write business plans. But success - the kind that’s sustainable, well that requires something deeper: the ability to continuously push past the limits we’ve unconsciously built for ourselves.
Think of it like your iPhone. No matter how new and advanced it is today, it won’t work at its best without continuous upgrades. The same is true for you! The “glass ceilings” you keep bumping into? They’re usually beliefs you’ve carried for years - ones you’ll need to challenge and rewrite in order to grow.
The Grit Factor
The second reason I believe many entrepreneurs give up comes down to grit.
When we dream of entrepreneurship, we picture freedom, passion, and doing work that fulfills us. We crave the chance to build something meaningful, something that matters. But what most people aren’t prepared for is the resilience it takes to keep going when challenges feel relentless.
I learned this the hard way. I shared some of my personal story in my previous blog post, which you can read here.
For years, I poured myself into work, often times doing the job of three people, striving to be seen, to be valued, to be “enough.” Like many, I pushed until burnout forced me to stop. And when I finally did, my nervous system, my health, and my sense of self-worth were in shambles.
That was my wake-up call. Something had to change.
So, How Do You Take That First, or Next Step?

No matter where you are on your entrepreneurial journey, here are a few key steps to set yourself up for success:
1. Find Your Support System
Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. Surround yourself with mentors, collaborators, and peers who understand the journey. You don’t have to do it all alone - and you shouldn’t.
2. Join a Community of Like-Minded Peers
Your network is your net worth. Being part of a community where you can exchange ideas, share challenges, and celebrate wins is invaluable. It keeps you accountable, inspired, and connected to people who truly get it.
3. Invest in Your Mindset
Skills get you started; mindset gets you through. Read the books. Join the workshops. Hire the coach. Do the inner work that equips you to navigate fear, self-doubt, and the inevitable ups and downs.
4. Get Crystal Clear on Your WHY
Your WHY is your anchor. It’s your North Star when the path gets hard and the noise gets loud. When you’re grounded in your deeper purpose, you can navigate the detours without losing sight of where you’re headed.
